As him, I see JFK's iniciative of sending apollo 10 to the moon to prove that he had better rockets than the soviets a good thing because since then, for some reason we advanced a lot in technology, but as he says, these things won't solve humanity's biggest problems if we don't know how to use them, because most of the time our political system still fails, and some of these biggest problems are not even technological, like famine, which is caused by a bad food distribution.
Sometimes we can't solve them because we can't understand them, so, before trying to find the answer for something, political leaders and public must care to solve the problem, institutions must support the solution, it must really be a technological problem and we must understand it.
